Meet Our Team

Experienced local guides who bring East China’s stories, culture and landscapes to life.
Meet East China through local eyes: knowledgeable guides, thoughtful storytelling and a Hangzhou-based planning team.

Who Is Behind Your East China Journey?

Discover East China Tours is supported by a Hangzhou-based local team with experience across Hangzhou, Shanghai, Suzhou, the Jiangnan water towns, Mount Huangshan and the wider East China region. Our local operating roots date back to 2008.

Our guides help travelers understand the culture and stories of each destination, while the local operations team coordinates the practical details of the journey. Together, they support a more personal, thoughtfully paced travel experience.

More Than Someone Who Shows You the Way

A good local guide does more than lead you from one attraction to another. Your guide helps you understand why a place matters.

At West Lake, that may mean discovering the legends, poetry and history behind the landscape. In Suzhou, it may mean exploring how rocks, water, windows and borrowed scenery shape a classical garden. In Longjing tea country or a Jiangnan water town, it may mean noticing the connections between landscape, local customs and everyday life.

At Mount Huangshan, sometimes the best guiding means knowing when to explain and when to let the landscape speak for itself. We value guides as local storytellers, thoughtful companions and practical travel partners.

A Long-Standing Professional Guiding Tradition

Professional guiding has been part of our local travel operation for many years. Historical company records from 2019 listed 45 full-time guides, including senior guides with more than 15 years of experience at that time.

The historical roster included graduates of Zhejiang University, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Hangzhou Normal University and Tourism College of Zhejiang. Several guides had already accumulated a decade or more of frontline experience.

These historical details explain our guiding background; they do not represent a current headcount or guarantee that a named guide will be available for your trip. Please discuss specific guide requests with our team.

Meet Some of Our Local Storytellers

Lu Liqiu · 卢立秋

Award-Winning Professional Guide

Lu Liqiu has been part of our professional guiding tradition for many years.

She was awarded third place in the 4th National Tour Guide Elite Competition, recognition of her professional guiding skills and ability to communicate a destination clearly and engagingly.

Her background reflects what we value in a guide: knowledge, professionalism and the ability to make travelers feel comfortable while helping them understand the places they visit.

For us, awards are not the purpose of guiding.

What matters most is how that experience translates into a better day for the traveler.

Cheng Biyong · 程必勇

Experienced East China Guide

Cheng Biyong is a graduate of Zhejiang University and was already listed with 16 years of guiding experience in our historical professional guide roster.

Years on the road build a kind of knowledge that cannot be learned only from books.

It means understanding how destinations change through the seasons, how different travelers experience the same place, when an itinerary needs adjusting and how to explain complicated history in a way that is easy to understand.

That combination of knowledge and practical experience is central to the type of guiding we value.

Yin Hengshan · 尹恒山

Local Culture & Destination Storytelling

A graduate of Zhejiang Gongshang University, Yin Hengshan was also among the most experienced guides in our historical team roster.

East China contains layers of history that are easy to miss when you are visiting for the first time.

A lake is connected to poetry.

A bridge may carry a centuries-old legend.

A cup of tea may reveal something about agriculture, trade and local customs.

Our approach to guiding is to help travelers see those connections without turning a holiday into a history lecture.

Xuan Kaihua · 宣凯华

Experienced Local Guide

Xuan Kaihua, a graduate of Zhejiang University of Technology, was listed in our historical records with extensive professional guiding experience.

Experienced guides understand that every group is different.

Some travelers want history.

Some are interested in food.

Some enjoy photography.

Some prefer a slower pace and more time to observe everyday life.

The best journey happens when the guide understands those interests and helps the destination unfold naturally.

What We Look for in a Great Guide

Local Knowledge

Our guides should understand much more than the basic facts behind an attraction.

They should know the destination well enough to explain its history, culture and everyday life in context.

Clear Storytelling

Dates and names are useful, but they are not enough.

We value guides who can turn complicated history into stories travelers can understand and remember.

Flexibility

Private travel should not feel like following a rigid timetable.

If you want more time for photography, need a rest, become interested in something unexpected or simply want to slow down, the pace should be able to adapt.

Patience

Traveling in another country sometimes brings questions about transportation, food, customs, payments or daily life.

A good guide helps make unfamiliar things easier.

Professionalism

Reliability, preparation and attention to detail are as important as knowledge.

The best guiding often happens quietly — when everything simply works.

Different Travelers, Different Journeys

There is no single perfect way to experience East China.

A couple visiting China for the first time may want a balanced introduction to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou.

A family may prefer shorter sightseeing periods and more hands-on experiences.

Older travelers may want a gentler pace and fewer unnecessary transfers.

Photography enthusiasts may want extra time at sunrise, beside a canal or in a traditional neighborhood.

Travelers interested in culture may want more time in gardens, museums, tea villages or craft workshops.

That is why our guides are encouraged to pay attention to the people they are traveling with, not simply the itinerary printed on the page.

Your trip should feel like your trip.

Guides Supported by a Local Operations Team

Behind every guide is another part of the journey that travelers rarely see: planning and coordination.

Our Hangzhou-based team works on the practical details that connect each part of an East China itinerary, including accommodation, transportation, attraction arrangements and multi-city routing.

This experience was developed through years of handling very different kinds of travel.

Our historical operations included leisure tours, private groups, corporate events, government and university delegations, and large-scale programs.

Company records even document the reception of a 5,000-person corporate conference group, requiring extensive transportation and ground coordination.

Today, our international journeys are much smaller and more personal.

But the operational discipline behind them remains important.

Experienced With East China, Not Just One City

One advantage of working with an East China specialist is continuity.

Many visitors travel through several destinations in one journey:

Shanghai → Suzhou → Hangzhou

or

Shanghai → Hangzhou → Mount Huangshan

or a longer journey connecting Wuzhen, Huangshan and Jingdezhen.

These places are different, but they are connected by history, geography and culture.

Our role is to help you see those connections.

Rather than treating each destination as an isolated sightseeing stop, we want the journey to gradually build your understanding of East China.

No Forced Shopping

Our guides are there to help you experience the destination — not to take you through compulsory commission-based shopping stops.

Discover East China Tours follows a no forced shopping approach.

We would rather spend your time walking beside West Lake, exploring a neighborhood, visiting a garden, enjoying a local meal or simply allowing you more time somewhere you love.

If you genuinely want help shopping for tea, crafts, souvenirs or other local products, your guide can assist.

But shopping should be your choice, not an obligation built into the itinerary.

Travel at Your Own Pace

Private travel gives us another important advantage: flexibility.

You do not have to walk at the pace of a large tour group.

You do not need to leave a place simply because forty other people are waiting on a coach.

There can be time for:

  • photography
  • coffee or tea
  • a slower walk
  • questions
  • rest
  • an unexpected discovery
  • or simply enjoying the view

Sometimes the most memorable moments of a journey are the ones that were never written into the itinerary.

The People Behind Your East China Journey

Travel is ultimately about people.

The person who explains the story behind a centuries-old garden.

The person who knows where to stand for a better view.

The person who notices that you need a slower afternoon.

The person who answers the question you did not know how to ask.

Those details are difficult to show on an itinerary.

But they can completely change the way a journey feels.

At Discover East China Tours, we combine local knowledge, professional guiding and thoughtful travel planning to help you experience East China in a more personal way.

Come as a visitor. Leave understanding East China a little better.
